After surprisingly being shortlisted as a candidate for the CONCACAF nation – who are co-hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup – the 45-year-old has decided to remove himself from the running. The ex-Blues boss did not believe the opportunity was the right role for him to return to management, according to The Telegraph.

After taking Derby County to the English Championship playoffs in his debut managerial season, Lampard was then hired by his former club. He led the Blues to Champions League qualification and an FA Cup final, before being sacked.

He was then put in charge of Everton, where he helped the Premier League side avoid relegation, before being sacked once again after less than a year in charge at Goddison Park.

In 2023, he took over in a caretaker role as manager of the Blues once again inbetween the hirings of Graham Potter and Mauricio Pochetino.

Canada, meanwhile, are being led by interim boss Mauro Biello at the moment.

“I’m enjoying being with the family and looking to get back at some point,” said Lampard. “Hopefully something comes up that feels right for me, I’m keen to get working again but as I reiterate, I’m enjoying family life. “It’s an intense job so when you’re out of it, it’s nice to appreciate being around all my children.

“You love the job. you understand the rigours of it in the modern day. I’ve enjoyed all the clubs I’ve worked with. They’ve all been big challenges for different reasons. I enjoy working with players, improve players and the team, so let’s see what comes.”

The Englishman will continue to evaluate his options over the coming months before making his return to the touchline. Whether or not it’s at club or international level, remains to be seen.
