Chelsea is on the verge of finalizing the appointment of Argentinian football expert Mauricio Pochettino as the Blues’ next coach, effective next season.
Pochettino, who has previously coached Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur, will take over his third English team.
Chelsea executives, according to The Daily Mail UK, have already begun talking transfer prospects with him, with an option to Victor Osimhen being examined.
The Blues are looking for a center attacker after selling Timo Werner and loaning Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan last summer.
Pochettino will undertake conversations with Lukaku at the end of the season, following which a decision on the Belgian’s future at Stamford Bridge will be taken.
Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has struggled since joining from Barcelona, and January signing David Fofana has little Premier League experience.
Lautaro Martinez, Inter Milan’s World Cup champion with Argentina, has been named as Pochettino’s number-one target for the striker position, according to the source.
Signing Osimhen will be difficult given that the Nigerian is also wanted by Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, as well as the stumbling block of Napoli’s asking price for the 24-year-old.
Martinez is tied for second position in the Serie A scoring race with 20 goals, three fewer than Osimhen, who leads the way.
